Operation Neptune
© 1992 The Learning Company
In this 1992 program, kids operate a submarine with the ultimate goal of finding a hidden space capsule. As they travel through the water, children must solve word problems involving the use of tools like graphs, charts and maps, providing an interesting context for basic math skills. They calculate problems using a handy on-screen calculator. The games can be saved over time, and the format is highly engaging. The graphics, sounds and responsivity were top-notch at the time the program was created, but pale in comparison to more recent releases. If you're stuck with an older computer, however, this one would be perfect for practice with a range of math skills.
