Every teacher and librarian should know about this subscription-based, ad free site all about children's books. There site is organized into six areas. The Authors Up-Close pages present original video interviews of famous children's authors, conducted in the author's own studio. Students can see and hear how authors come up with plot and character ideas, and can watch as they illustrate their work by way of audio and text interviews. In the Book Guides pages, teachers find links to book guides and teaching materials. In Book Readings, students can listen to book excerpts-- a great way to get kids excited about a particular text or genre. The last three areas of the site are Thematic Booklists, Book Awards, and Valuable Links, each providing a summary of book news. Subscriptions begin at $110 for a one-year individual license, which may sound expensive, but given the site's comprehensivity and ease of use, we think it's money well spent, and a real timesaver for busy professionals. There's also enough free content on the site to make it worth a visit.
