Zoo Vet
© 2004 Legacy Games
Great for wannabe vets, this medical simulation uses real animals and case studies to let children try to help one of 24 sick zoo animals. There's a nice variety of critters to cure, from bats to hippos, with 36 instruments that simulate the resources a real zoo vet might have. Starting with a map hanging on vet office, children first select an animal to cure (the sick ones are highlighted). Next, they see a short animated report from the zoo keepers, who describe what they know about the animal. A irritated Lion may have a case of fleas, or a penguin could be simply laying an egg. In order to diagnose an animal, you must quickly make the correct tests and ask the right questions (the easier levels tell you what to do). Once the treatment is made, your job is critiqued by a master doctor. There are three levels of play, and games can be saved. Good work is rewarded with a trophy. This would be an outstanding tool for any middle school science classroom as an exercise in deductive reasoning. See also Pet Pals Animal Doctor (2006).
