Egyptian Hieroglyphs Made Easy
© 2003 SMiles Productions
Published and designed in conjunction with University of Washington professors, this tutorial on hieroglyphics would make an excellent addition to a unit on Egyptian ancient history. By way of a fairly straightforward interface, the software gives a slide-show-style introduction to the subject, and then presents lessons on learning to read and speak the hieroglyphics. The CD's title is a bit misleading, as truly learning to read the symbols and understand the language is no easy task. Still, the software does a good job of breaking down the language into manageable parts, for instance, mono literal, biliteral and triliteral sound and their associated sounds, vocabulary and spellings.
