The Bald Eagle - Endangered No More/EagleQuest CD-ROM
© 2002 Mindfull Publishing
This combination 32-page hard cover book and CD-ROM teach children about the bald eagle’s struggle to survive. The book, The Bald Eagle Endangered No More, is full of beautiful illustrations and photographs, and is written at a level that elementary-aged kids can understand. Content includes a glossary and a list of further resources. EagleQuest, the CD-ROM, was written by a teacher and is tied to National Science Education Content Standards. It's not described as software per se, but more as “guided topics” for children to begin their own search for information. Indeed, the entire contents of the CD is an Adobe Acrobat PDF file. As children look at the screens, they are given assignments such as “write a paragraph that describes the adult bald eagle's appearance”. They can then link to web sites that will help them complete this task. These sites include live EagleCams that let children view actual eagle nests. This guided web exploration is a neat idea, and one that would work well in a classroom setting.
