Wavebird Wireless Controller for GameCube
© 2002 Nintendo of America
This GameCube controller looks and feels like a bulky version of the regular controller, minus the cable. After you install the two AA batteries (for up to 100 hours of play), you plug a small receiver into one of the controller ports. The controller and the receiver have little dials with up to 16 channels. As long as they match, the controller works. We tried it from about 10 feet with books and dogs blocking the way... with good results. Two minor drawbacks: (1) there is no rumble feature, and (2) you have to remember to turn off the controller when you're done playing. If you don't, the batteries will be used up.
