CTR Review

Designed for the LeapPad or the Quantum Pad (sold separately) , this is a well constructed series consists of ten storybook/cartridges (sold individually for $15 each) and four supplementary activity book/cartridges. Each book has an assessment page at the end, which a parent could use to see how well a child has done to master the content at each level. The series starts with letters and letter sounds" and moves up to compound words. We took a close look at three levels (Levels 1, 5 and 10) and found both the pedagogy and the content to be outstanding when compared to either traditional pencil/paper based reading programs, or cassette-based approaches like Hooked on Phonics. The primary advantage is the ability of a child to touch any picture, letter or word to hear it read aloud. Note that the series does not keep records, or remember what a child has done. Requires the LeapPad or the Quantum Pad ($50). See the review of LeapPad Phonics Program Level 1.
