Switched-On Schoolhouse Health
© 2002 Alpha Omega Publications
Part of a large series of distance learning units, this CD-ROM teaches one semester of high school health. Content covers body systems, nutrition, exercise and personal hygiene. It's Christian-based, with many sections prefaced by discussions of Bible passages. Each lesson consists of a list of vocabulary words and definitions, followed by three games. These games teach spelling and definitions and are entertaining, with nice "space adventure" graphics. There are also additional lessons available on the Internet, but these links weren't functioning when we reviewed the program. Fill in the blank quizzes assess student progress and detailed records are kept. Teacher management features are extensive. Flaws include an incredibly long installation time, almost no speech, and an unusual navigation system that takes some getting used to. Also, the lesson content can be less than challenging. For instance, quiz questions include "Why did God give us food?".
