Our little scientists loved this child-friendly talking microscope. It comes with twelve slides of bugs and magnifies them to five times the normal size. Kids put a slide in place, enter its three letter code by pressing large ABC buttons and then hear facts about each specimen. A quiz mode tests their knowledge. The microscope is well-designed for small hands and the two-volume level audio is clear. Our testers looked at all the slides and then found other things to look at like leaves and hair for further investigation. The magnification level isn't much, but it does allow for a better close-up view of bugs than the naked eye. For $30, this is a very nice smart toy, appropriate for both home and school use.
