CTR Review

Here's a perfect marriage -- leveled BRAIN QUEST questions (you, know, the flash card quiz game?) playing on Leapfrog's Turbo Twist hardware. There are hundreds of questions (we played for two hours without a repeat) and the format is responsive and engaging. Progress can be saved from session to session. There are four modes of play: That's a Fact, Blast Off, Beat the Clock and MultiBlaster. Subject areas include Social Studies, Science, Grab Bag and English. Questions are presented in T/F or Multiple Choice format, and children can quickly flip between answers or advance to the next question, bypassing reinforcement messages if they want. Questions answered incorrectly are recycled. Question samples include "What was a cause of the Civil War?" (Slavery), and "Who invented the phonograph?" (Thomas Edison). Additional content is delivered through ROM cartridges that are sold at retail for around $13 each, or downloaded through the Mind Station (MSRP $39.99). This product will be available in August.
