Teaches: utility for assessing and learning about learning styles

CTR Review

This utility is designed for use by both students and teachers. Kids can log on, take a six question "learning styles" quiz and then find out what kind of learning style they employ. They can also find information about their learning style, view videotapes of real kids discussing their learning styles, play related games and more. Teachers can use the software to find out what learning styles their students use and to learn how best to teach to each style. The trouble with this whole program is its lack of theoretical foundation. Other than a brief mention of Howard Gardner's work on multiple intelligences, there is no mention of any theory or research that backs up the program's learning styles and assessment. The program discusses learners on two dimensions: a propensity for feeling versus thinking and a preference for doing versus watching. Although there's a lot of thoughtful advice doled out in an engaging manner, we question its overall validity.
