CTR Review

This is a comprehensive, integrated educational accountability system that helps K-12 schools use online, real-time technology to improve educational practices. EDMin first helps a district build a data warehouse, which will allow test scores, demographic information , etc. to be tracked and analyzed. Curricula and assessments are aligned to state and other standards of the District's choice. Administrators and teachers can then use the system to assess and analyze student performance over multiple years, and use the data to identify which practices are most effective for raising academic performance. The system's applications include the following functions and resources: Instructional Management (lesson planning), Online Portfolio (both teacher and student), Calendar, Classroom Management (attendance, etc.), Reports, Staff Development, Performance Center (score analysis), Communications (email, etc.), Standards, and Newsletter. Two new services available for a separate fee are IEP building and a Cost-Benefit Analysis function. The system is browser-delivered and password protected. Users— administrators, teachers, students and parents will have different levels of access. Teachers can add their own lesson plans, the district can share lesson plans or material can be purchased through a third party like Microsoft Encarta. Virtual EDucation is currently used by 1,000,000 students in 14 states. After a one-time set-up fee of $2000 for the district office and $1500 per school, the subscription rate is $8.00/year/student for the first 2000 students, and then $4.00/year/student for all others. We found the system very comprehensive and complete.
