GeoSafari Laptop (Age 3-7 Edition)
© 2001 Educational Insights
For the older kids in this three-to-seven year age group, this is a terrific toy. Resembling a laptop computer, the game offers 63 double-sided activity cards for a total of 126 lessons. Kids simply turn the toy on, slide in the card of their choice and play the game. The activity cards cover a wide range of subjects and levels, beginning with simple counting and alphabet activities and progressing on to more difficult tasks like measuring and sentence comprehension. Besides reading and math activities, there are cards that quiz things like seasons, story sequence, rhyming, shapes, and more. There are cards that cover basic science principles and those that offer I Spy puzzles. In short, there's plenty of fun and learning to be had. Correct answers are rewarded with pleasant sounds and flashing lights. Our one complaint? There is no "read aloud" option. If the child can't yet read, she'll need help figuring out more than just a few cards. If you purchase this for a child younger than six, be prepared to lend a hand as cards are changed. (Note: There is an Ages 8 and Up version of this toy. The toy unit is the same-- only the cards are different. Cards for either age group can be purchased separately.)
