Note: The following review appeared in the July 2001 issue of CSR. JumpStart Languages is now bundled as one of the three disks found in JumpStart Advanced Preschool. Here's the review.A playful introduction to four languages is offered by this colorful, engaging program. Designed especially for young children, the software lets kids "discover" French, Spanish, Japanese and English vocabulary as they visit four pavilions at the JumpStart World Festival. Each pavilion houses related games and activities. Children can dress puppets, play hide and seek in the pavilion kitchens, listen to stories and more. All the while they learn vocabulary words, including common phrases, numbers and colors. Three difficulty levels plus a challenge mode keep things interesting. As they play the games, children earn globe pieces, and for each four earned, they are rewarded with a "video voyage", an all-too-brief, narrated film clip of a site or activity in the country of their choice. Two-player board games and lots of printable activities, recipes and sheet music round out the program. Testers and reviewers both enjoyed the experience.
