My First Amazing Science/History/Human Body Action Pack
© 2000 DK Multimedia
This bundle of excellent programs from DK Multimedia provides exposure to a range of important science concepts and historical events. The weakest program in the set is My First Amazing Science Explorer. This program attempts to answer kids' science questions like "Why are bubbles round?," or "What makes the lights go on?," with text, pictures, animations and, unfortunately, very few activities. Although based on a good concept, the program is too passive for young children. My First Amazing History Explorer brings history to life by letting children go back in time to visit eight countries. Their mission is to rescue a missing professor who is lost somewhere in history. To accomplish this task, kids must locate key historical artifacts. They travel back to Ancient Egypt, The Industrial Age and the Roman Empire. As children explore, they earn stickers, play activities and learn lots of history via 150 narrated popup screens. Other features include two hours of narration, a comprehensive multiple choice quiz, and a glossary of terms. For a very entertaining and educational introduction to the human body, My First Amazing Human Body is perfect. Children learn about their skeleton, organs and body systems and how each of these important body parts work. They are led through four fun activities by a humorous skeleton who gives instructions and teaches about each body part and function. On the whole, this is a super set of programs that keep kids engaged and learning for hours. It would work very well in both home and school settings.
