When our Games Editor complained of sore hands from his stock Playstation controller, we sought help. Saitek Industries answered the call, rushing us their PX3000 Tilt Double Shock Pad. Besides larger, more comfortable handles, the PX3000 offers improvement over the standard controller in several ways. The 'double shock' part simply means the controller vibrates when you crash your car or slam dunk. Other features include a single analog controller (joystick for your thumb), throttle wheel and smaller buttons for precise control. What really sets this device apart from the pack is its Tilt technology. When activated, the controller itself becomes a directional pad. Instead of pressing the right arrow, you simply tilt the controller to the right. After a little practice we found the Tilt feature to be most helpful when racing and flying. With other game genres, like adventure, the pad was too sensitive. Although new and different, Tilt proved to be more novelty than useful. With a price tag of $50 (half the cost of PlayStation itself) the PX3000 probably isn't worth the extra beans.
