This learning system allows students to read magazine articles selected by their teacher and then answer questions about each passage. Teachers will find a comprehensive library of 1550 articles, appropriate for children in grades four through 12. These are taken from content-rich magazines like Turtle, U.S. Kids, Boys Life, Mother Earth News, Time, Redbook and Sports Illustrated.Setup is relatively easy. Teachers enter their names, select articles to be read and determine reading levels. The flexible tools allow teachers to control whether students can refer to the article when tested. They can also adjust the default scoring system and set a deadline for the completion of the assignment. Once teacher setup is complete, students simply log-on and select a password from a list of colors. They are then ready to read. The questions start out with students identifying story facts, and at later levels focus on more complex analysis and interpretation. Scores are generated based on the article type, number of correct answers and number of times students have taken the test. The flexible setup, the easy to use web browser, the individualized record keeping system and the use of high-interest content make this an ideal reading package.Note that this program is available both on CD-ROM and via the Internet.
