Available in four languages, this set of programs is designed for children learning beginning English, French, Spanish or German, and picks up where its sister program, QSteps, leaves off. The program is supposedly for young learners, but we found many of the skills presented more advanced. Children visit three islands where they participate in reading, listening and speaking activities. Each activity teaches 1500 new vocabulary words and reinforces those already presented. Content features games, songs, animations and stories. Teacher support materials include lesson plans. Unfortunately, an awkward design makes it hard to get around— there are too many details for kids to remember. Other weaknesses include a lack of record-keeping and activities that are on the dull side. At least they are plentiful and they do provide solid skill practice.
