This dry but comprehensive language program teaches users to speak, understand, read and write Spanish. The program's features include speech recognition technology one the Windows version only, 20 different types of learning activities, quizzes, and record keeping. The program also evaluates your pronunciation and lets you "converse" with native speakers. The content in the activities cover about 12,500 words that include grammar and real-life dialogues between native speakers. For example, students are asked to ask for directions, make phone calls, set up appointments, shop and order food. It's a very good program, but somewhat lacking in pizzazz and frills compared to programs like Spanish for the Real World that are specifically designed for kids. Additionally, we found the speech recognition feature difficult to get working.
