Reader Rabbit Toddler 2.0
© 1998 The Learning Company
In this revision of the well-loved Reader Rabbit's Toddler, children will find a nice collection of nine simple activities that do not require clicking; just moving the mouse or tapping a key will get a response. Although babies and toddlers will still have to sit through the short introductions for each activity and the brief animations, in general, the program is very responsive and easy to use. The revised version consists of the original activities, which include coloring by moving the mouse, matching baby animals to their parents, singing along with familiar tunes complete with fingerplays and a simple but powerful music-making activity. The program now also includes a new letter matching game, the ability to print coloring book pages from a parent menu and a click-free way to get back to the main screen. You can also print out pictures, puzzles, and song lyrics. This program was a winner with all of our toddler testers. One parent nicely describes her child's reaction to the program: "We purchased this program for Marissa when she was 13 months old and right from the beginning it captured and held her attention. She was very excited with many of the activities and was able to interact with them right from the beginning since they only required random keyboard input or shaking the mouse. Marissa uses the program every day and she plays with it until we have to tell her it is time to quit – she never loses interest. She now continues the finger plays she learned throughout the day in her high chair or in the car. The high quality graphics and music capture her attention and make learning very fun for her. We want her to have a positive learning experience on the computer, and this program surpasses any others that we have tried in keeping her interested and motivated to learn new skills."Parents of toddlers simply can't go wrong with this terrific program.
