Here's what you need to know about Version 5 of the PlayStation. It was released in the middle of the Pandemic (on November 12, 2020); and there are two formats. $400 for a digital edition (with a large internal hard drive and a USB port for external storage, but no disk drive, for downloads of games) and $500 with a disk drive -- specifically an "Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive" that is backwards compatible with PS4 titles. The disc drive version also has an internal hard drive and USB storage options. Peripherals include a wireless headset, a 1080p camera and an updated controller called DualSense, along with a controller charging station. Promising children's/family games include Astro's Playroom and Sackboy: A Big Adventure. Noteworthy new game announcements include Marvel's Spider-Man Miles Morales and Gran Turismo 7. As you might expect, this console is not straying far from the richly animated shooter/action genre; and most of this content is T rated or better, making the PS5 a poor choice for a child's gaming console compared to the more family friendly Wii. Headline titles include Grand Theft Auto V, Marvel's Spider-Man Miles Morales (by Insomniac Games), Gran Turismo 7 (by Polyphony Digital), Horizon Forbidden West (Guerrilla Games), NBA 2K21 (2K, Visual Concepts), Resident Evil Village (Capcom), DEATHLOOP (Bethesda) and Project Athia (Square Enix/Luminous Productions). Other new titles include Stray (Annapurna/ Blue Twelve Studio) and Bugsnax (Young Horses). Learn more at https://blog.us.playstation.com and https://www.playstation.com/en-us/ps5/
