Here's (yet another) snap together coding and robotics kit -- this time from Sony (Sony Global Education team). KOOV is already available in Japan and China, and Sony is using crowd funding to expand the program to the US. The Starter Kit ($360) contains 162 blocks and 14 sensors, but no motor. So you can't build any vehicles. There are 14 KOOV recipes you can assemble, which are outlined in the free app. The Advanced Kit ($500) contains 276 building blocks and 22 sensors allowing you to build 23 KOOV "Robot Recipes." This includes two DC motors, gears, and wheels. Testers found the process of building a model to be complicated and didactic. There's not much room for creativity.
