Aristotle uses Microsoft Intelligent Services and Silk Intelligence, and the hardware was developed for Mattel by China-based Nabi (makers of previous tablets and a baby monitor system). The kit includes a camera, app and the Lava-lamp-like Aristotle device with embedded with LEDs and a speaker. The camera and Aristotle are always on, staying in your babies room to listen for spoken commands or crying. Information is stored in the cloud, and can be managed by an app on your smart phone. You can program if-then commands (if baby cries, play music) or have the lighting effects change according to the mood or time. The app has a logging system that lets you order more baby supplies.  As with any "always on" device that listens, there are security issues, making Aristotle rather controversial (remember the Talk to Me Barbie). This device requires Wi-Fi and a smart phone. More info at https://www.nabitablet.com/aristotle
