After you flip through seven categories of animals (ice, jungle, farm, forest, house, insects, birds, and sea), you can touch an animal to get to a set of information screens that present common facts via sugary narration (we tested the English version). You learn such things as a whale can hold it's breath for up to an hour. There are a lot of animals (80 total) but the navigation makes this app hard to find one in particular. In addition, each screen contains a lot of interesting looking items that don't respond to touch which can reduce child engagement. Need to know:  Testers noted that the facts are mixed with fictional ideas. There's a traffic jam in the north pole, and at one point Santa flies by on his sled. This is a playful mix of animated routines, animal facts, common games and a cluttered and confusing design. Innovative features include the ability to download language files on an "as needed" basis (there's a lot of narration with this app, so it's nice that you can download the languages you want). Also noteworthy: the “Family Moments” feature that uses an age gate to pull a parent into the play. A parent mightyAnimal World - Animal Sounds For Babies be asked to blow on a child to simulate a winter storm, or search for a hidden owl by following the sounds.
