Eric Carle’s Brown Bear Animal Parade
© 2016 StoryToys
Help Brown Bear find his ten musical animal friends, in this slow paced, mellow experience that would make a good starter app. Unlike My Very Hungry Caterpillar, this app is presented in 3D, meaning the bear can move in front of or in back of objects. Teachers might want to use this as an opportunity to discuss "front" and "back" (as the bear moves in front of or in back of different objects). Art purists will note that the animals are displayed in vector graphics, with squared-off angles. This makes the items look as if they were made out of cut paper, with scissors. This app follows the book's "Bremen Town Musician" narrative; where the bear moves (with your help) along a path, meeting and waking up other hibernating animal friends. If you want to skip an animal and hurry to the ending, that's OK. To wake up the animal, you need to tap it. Each tap colors it in, until it joins the parade with a unique song. In the last scene, all the animals sing together in a mashup of music. You can also record your own sounds as the voice for each animal. The ten animal character come from the book Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?Need to know: Because of the musical sounds, this is not a quiet app. This app would nicely accompany and extend the book experience.
