Tiggly Chef introduces subtraction in a kitchen laboratory. Chef tells you what’s needed for each experiment, and you help by taking away the extra ingredients to get to the exact number. Mathematics symbols appear on screen explaining your actions, helping you learn subtraction concepts and the meaning behind mathematical symbols as they relate to your own actions. Content includes 3 kitchen labs with 30 flavor bits like peppery, crunchy, zesty, stinky, and sour); 24 dishes with silly names, and 12 reactions from Chef. You can earn stickers that are available for iMessage app. Each kitchen has a higher level of math difficulty. For example, if there are 8 bits in the machine and the lab notes ask for only 5, you can subtract extra ingredients one by one (8 – 1 = 7; 7- 1 = 6; 6- 1 =5), you can take away a group of 3 in one action (8 – 3 = 5), or subtract 2 first and then take away the last extra bit (8 – 2 = 6; 6 -1 = 5). Note that this app works with or without the "Tiggly Math Smart Toys" which are sold extra. Your Tiggly toys can be used like real counting rods on a touch screen, and were inspired by classic Cuisenaire rods used in Montessori classrooms. The app is optimized to work with Tiggly toys but also offers a fun learning experience without the toys.
