Room, The
© 2012 Fireproof Games
First released in 2012, this is a richly illustrated 3D puzzle game from the UK. There are now two sequels (Room Two and Room Three) on a variety of platforms. You start by exploring a mysterious wooden box, discovering a cryptic note with clues, and mechanical puzzles that take advantage of multi-touch screens. This game is more about problem solving that following a story. Progress for one player is automatically saved, like a bookmark. As a result, it would not work well in a library or classroom setting (the only option for a new player is to reset the game and start from the first level). If you like puzzle/exploration games like Myst, you'll like The Room. If you get stuck, well designed series of hints can help. It is an ideal choice for an older child in search of a challenge. This was made in Unity and it serves as a good example of what this platform can do. There are options for English, French, Italian, German, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. Fireproof Games is a small independent studio from Guildford, United Kingdom.
