Coloring Cam

Use your iPhone's camera to create stained-glass like images, by pulling in the textures and colors that you see around you. This is not a new idea -- we've seen this technique used in other apps like Elmer's Photo Patchwork, for example. But this app is both "free" (just watch the IAP) and offers a more straightforward touch and paint control mechanism. The app comes with a starter set of pictures; with additional content offered to children at an extra cost. This extra content does not look like it is locked, so children will think it is part of the free app. Existing work can be saved to your photo library or sent as a tweet. Some of the coloring areas are rather small, requiring some developed fine-motor skill to hit the target. The bottom line? For free, not bad. This app was created by Eric Rosenbaum of MIT. See also Singing Fingers and Elmer’s Photo Patchwork. Note that the version of this app we reviewed won't work on the iPad.
