Mattel is using the 3D printer technology to modernize a classic 1960's plastic molding toy. While the 3D printer might be slow, expensive and clunky, the app is very affordable ($free) and elegantly designed, letting you make virtual snap together monsters or jewelry, in 3D. You may recall that the original ThingMaker kit was used to make plastic bugs called Creepy Crawlers. (See this vintage 1960 commercial https://youtu.be/Wx54NIdkWuU) Just be forwarned that this app is the gateway to a $300 purchase. Even if a project takes up to 10 hours, and may require swapping filiment, the design process is simple and fast thanks to this app. Proceed with caution and read the online reviews; or just use the free app on it's own, and forget the printer.
