Kurio Watch

Here's a fact any smart phone wearing parent understands. Once a child has touched your "serious" smart watch -- like a Samsung Gear or the Apple Watch for example -- they immediately want one for their own. Here's a $60 option, coming this fall, that France-based KD Interactive (makers of the Kurio tablet) hopes will meet this demand. Kurio Watch is based on Android and is powered by a rechargeable lithium ion battery. It comes with a color touch screen that is "made to adult specifications, with kids in mind." According to the publisher, it will come with an accelerometer for tracking movement, a front-facing camera with 128 MB of internal memory (up to 30 minutes of video), a micro-SD slot for storing more video or pictures an screen content featuring popular licensed characters. But the most interesting feature may be ability to pair with other watches or devices -- such as an adult's Android smartphone, for transferring calls or texting. The range will be up to 50 feet. If nothing else, kids may have a new way to pass notes in school.
