Fun, silly and addicting -- not unlike potato chips -- this beautifully orchestrated and illustrated logical adventure involves plenty of exploring, collecting, reading clues and solving problems around the general theme of sustainable living and teamwork. If you've every played Pikmin (by Nintendo) you get the idea of how this app works. You direct a small band of creatures around areas of a village to complete a series of challenges. Touching the screen directs Chips, a small creature, who must feed potatoes to the Potato Monster in order to purchase things (food, supplies and luxury items). But when the monster collapses, all the potatoes disappear and Chips and his friends are lost. You must gather friends, follow written clues and think outside the box to teach Chips new ways to solve old problems to save his community. The illustrations and music are excellent. A control panel makes it easy to toggle between English, French, Quebec French, Italian, German, Spanish & Portuguese. You can save one game and progress is automatically bookmarked. The story seems random and the educational lessons are vague, but it is fun to work through each step. Visit the games web site at www.ilovepotatoes.nfb.ca.
