This nicely illustrated and narrated experience tells the story of the extinct Huia, a large New Zealand forest bird that disappeared in the early 1900s. This is a countdown story -- with each page, a bird disappears for a different reason. The presentation is animated but factual. The English narration, by George Henare is excellent. There is also a M?ori language option. You can interact with the story by touching an illustration or have the story read to you. Features include: turn on/off narration, text and audio; interact with a 360 turn around of 2 real (stuffed) Huia birds; recreate the sound of the Huia bird; 3 types of of memory games; Field guide to learn more about the huia; 12 Ways you can help wild birds. The hope is that children can learn how to care for the environment, learning from the sad lesson of the Huia bird. Written by Julian Stokoe; created by Yoozoo, Ltd, funded by NZ On Air.
