Sesame Street Alphabet Kitchen

Ideal for early readers, this word building activity turns Tiggly's $30 rubber vowel set into cookie cutters. If you buy the letters, you also get a download code for the app.Note that the letters are optional... the app can also work on a stand-alone basis with your fingers. In this mode, you drag and drop the vowels into place. Your job is simple... to touch the vowel to your iPad screen, between two consonants to make a CVC word. This app is easy to operate, and it works because children want to see what word they are making. Your job is to ‘bake’ 3- and 4-letter CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words that turn into cookies that can then be decorated; and fed to Cookie Monster. There are 150 words in all: 90 are real (like hen) and 60 are nonsense (like han)... and both are illustrated. Once a batch of four words is made, you get to feed the cookies to Cookie Monster. It's fun to stir the dough and see what the cookies will look like when they are done; however, this is a one trick pony app, and there is no narrative structure. So while the words are used in a sentence, there's not further contextual glue. This app would work well in an early childhood learning setting, when all five vowels are ready.
