Roald Dahl's Twit or Miss
© 2015 Penguin Books
Free, fun and addicting, this is a leveled tossing/swiping game designed around two famous Roald Dahl characters. There are no formal learning objectives here -- but children will be exposed to lots of fine motor practice, and there's a degree of scorekeeping. Roald Dahl was a well known British children's author who died in 1990. His books included Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach. This app is noteworthy because it is the first time one of Roald Dahl's characters have appeared in interactive form. The gameplay is light on narrative and heavy on humor and timed throwing. Your objective is to capture bits of flying food before they get to Twit's sleeping wife. If you miss, you get a lower score and Twit gets a thump on the head. The more items you catch, the higher your score. There's plenty of strategy, and careful aiming is rewarded with high scores. You learn that trick shots can earn many points. The app was created with Aardman Animations (aka Shaun the Sheep) and has no ads, and has no cost. We can only think that the idea is to use this app to introduce a new generation to Roald Dahl's characters; which could help promote his books.
