Attention all early elementary math teachers... you'll want to know about this addition/subtraction sandbox, where math equations are represented by sets of small beads, and numerals are read outloud in your choice of 11 European dialects. We also liked that there are both iOS and Android versions of this app (we tested the iOS version). This is Marbotics's third well designed app, and every detail has been covered. This time, children use counting to build addition and subtraction equations by moving small beads. This designers say this app was inspired by the Montessori method, and the design shows. Setup options let you adjust the level, turn on/off sound, and turn on/off the number slide features. This app works with either fingers or a set of wooden numerals designed to work with the iPad's screen, sold separately for about $40. If you purchase the smart wooden toy, you can download the app More or Less for free. Created by Maria Merouze, Anne-Clotilde St. Mar and Megane David. While being excieting conceptually, children may less than thrilled to solve the problems. This app doesn't provide much of a reason to do the math... it's more of a very cool way to do it.
