This hauntingly beautiful app provides a child's-eye view of the events of the Holocaust. The narrative is paired with illustrations, animations, and music. Extra features include a set of non-interactive maps and a historical timeline. ?The 2015 BRD jurors said that this app "successfully addresses a most serious topic with respect and a light touch. The story is about a father and his two children, Didier and Jou Jou, and their deportation to Auschwitz. The tragedy, however, is only suggested, looming in the background. To the childre,n the camp takes on a magical, fairy-tale like quality: the chimney becomes a dragon, the barracks an aviary, the depository for the deported Jews’ belongings a place to explore. Content includes a timeline of the Nazi persecution of Jews and of the Holocaust, and two maps of the main extermination camps and of the Jewish ghettos.
