Axel Scheffler’s Flip Flap Safari
© 2014 Nosy Crow
Cross a crocodile with an antelope and what do you get? A crocelope, of course. Second in the Axel Scheffler Flip Flap series of apps (the first featured farm animals) this is another excellent bite-sized starter app that is also an excellent language enrichment experience. The fonts and text highlighting make it a noteworthy reading experience. Using a familiar design technique, children mix-and-match the top and bottom parts of animals. There are 11 complete animals, giving you the possibility to make 121 total combinations, each with a well written narrated rhyme, with the option to turn on/off word highlighting. The art is by Axel Scheffler, illustrator of The Gruffalo. The app accompanies a printed board book with the same title with easy to flip slit pages. It will be published by Nosy Crow in the UK in August 2014, and Candlewick Press in the US.
