This free 2013 app from Duck Duck has been getting a lot of use in early childhood classrooms. It lets you take any photo -- of a friend, your show or a dog -- and make it talk by superimposing a mouth line over your photo, and then recording up to 30 seconds of sound. The lip syncing is automatic, and amazingly accurate, although it doesn't allow for curved mouth lines. So, if you've ever wanted to make an item talk, this is your app. And for some reason, its free. There are two versions of the app, which can get confusing: ChatterPix; and ChatterPix Kids, also called ChatterKids. Both are free, but the first has Social Sharing features activated, with one touch access to services like Facebook. If you don't want this possibility, you're supposed to download ChatterPix Kids (aimed at 13 and younger) instead, because the social services are removed. Note that you can still save your work to your photo gallery. If this is a free app, what's the catch? Duck Duck Moose wants to spread the ChatterPix brand which is watermarked on your work.
