Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore
© 2011 Moonbot Studios
Based on the book by William Joyce, this is an interactive edition of a short animated film that nicely tells the story of a man (Morris Lessmore) who loves books. Each of the 27 pages weaves interactive features with the storyline. For example, you help scatter the books during a windstorm by circulating your finger on the screen, spell words using alphabet cereal, or tilt the screen to fly Mr. Lessmore through a tunnel of words. Each page uses something different and the effects -- or nice touches -- are subtle and wonderfully crafted, making this a case study in the art and science of interactive story telling. There are no reading helpers, labeling or other scaffolding features. Instead children are left to read for themselves (the old fashioned way), and they must figure out how to get the page to turn, pulling in a bit of problem solving. Programmed by Twin Engine Labs, created by Moonbot Studios.
