Teaches: a utility for parents, child security, GPS tracking

CTR Review

Shaped like a fat watch, nu·m8 (pronounced new-mate) is a GPS locator designed to be attached to your child. Inside the device, which tells time by the way, is a GSM and GPS designed to let you locate your child by way of the Internet, or through a text messaging system. If it is removed unexpectedly, the device sends parents an alert email and/or SMS message. After you purchase the device for $180, and activate your $10/month data plan, you must indicate the mobile number and email address that it will respond to. You can then locate your child anytime in two ways: 1) use the customer portal at Lok8u.com and view their current location on a map; OR 2) receive their location via text message using your mobile phone. You can also set pre-determined 'Safe Zones' for your child to play in; if they move out of this area, you'll receive an SMS (text) message on your cell phone. nu·m8 requires a monthly subscription to the Lok8u pinpoint services in order to send unlimited location requests – via the web or your mobile phone.
