First launched in 2009, Petpet Park is Nickelodeon’s first virtual world creation since it acquired NeoPets. The site is free to get in and register, but offers exclusive content only to members. Content includes 42 areas of exploration, 23 games, 11 shops for customizing and caring for individual Petpets, quests and more. The Nickelodeon Virtual Worlds Group creates and operates Nickelodeon’s virtual worlds and persistent online multi-user game experiences for kids, teens and families. These worlds include the pioneer youth-oriented online community, Neopets and the new Petpet Park, a virtual life fantasy world spinning off from Neopian lore. “Monkey Quest” is currently in development and will launch in 2011. Petpets are Neopets’ pet companions that children can adopt, customize and care for. There are six species of pet, and you can go on quests (like jobs), play games together, meet Pals and participate in a daily life with events and storylines. Petpet Cash Cards will be available at Target stores nationwide allowing users to earn exclusive bonus prizes upon redemption. The site uses special events to pull children in, such as a “Winter Festival” promotion offering players daily gifts and access to a new premium zone called “Snowflake Summit” with holiday-related content.
