Nancy is joined by animated versions of her friends, Bess and George for the first time in the Nancy Drew series. When they travel to the Bahamas for a vacation, Bess is kidnapped and held for ransom. Depending on the scene, players assume the role of either Nancy or George as they unlock treasure chests, decrypt a riddle book and explore underwater shipwrecks with the hope of finding a missing artifact needed to rescue Bess. As they explore, they are able to go diving, sailing and interacting with native wildlife.
