iWork '09

This is the latest version of Apples office productivity suite, not to be confused with iLife. The single $80 package includes three applications: Pages '09, Numbers '09 and Keynote '09, which install from one DVD.Keynote '09 features include a new collection of slide transitions, plus a new "magic move" feature that lets a single graphic element jump from slide to slide as part of the transition. You also have more control over images, with the ability to remove backgrounds easily so your image integrates nicely with your slide background. Text transitions can also morph from one slide to the next.New 3D chart options include cylinder shapes, beveled-edge pie charts, new textures and four new 3D build effects. In addition, a new Keynote Remote application (sold separately for $1) lets you view slides and presenter notes as well as control your presentation using your iPod touch or iPhone. In our tests, this feature did not do well with videos.Other features include Pages '09 Full Screen view which lets you focus on your document and only reveals the menus, format bar and navigator page when you need it. Outline Mode includes templates to build the framework for your document quickly. The MathType 6 support lets engineers, mathematicians, and students add sophisticated equations to their documents, and EndNote X2 integration lets you add and edit bibliographic references. You can categorize data by column, and then collapse, expand and summarize using Numbers '09. You can also write formulas using the built-in help for over 250 functions, and use the new Formula List to view all formulas in your spreadsheet.Apple is introducing iWork.com public beta, where you will be able to share documents online. You will use your Apple ID and click on the iWork.com icon in the Keynote, Pages or Numbers toolbar to upload your document and invite others to view it online. Viewers can provide comments and notes, and download a copy of your document in iWork, Microsoft Office, or PDF formats. iWork '09 is available for $79 for existing Mac users, or for $49 with the purchase of any Mac.
