Smaller, cheaper and easier to use that last year's EyeClops edition, the EyeClops Bionic Eye SE is a 200 power TV microscope that is currently the best possible way to turn your big screen TV into a microscope viewfinder. The SE (stands for Swivel Eye) is about the size of a baseball, shrunk down from the original green softball sized version that was first released two years ago. After you insert the 5 AA batteries (not included), you find the composite video port -- that's the yellow plug on your TV and turn on the LEDs lights. There's a single magnification level, and the threaded focus cap makes it easy to explore the hidden print on the back of a dollar bill, or discover the details of a butterfly wing. Getting the image into focus takes some practice. This gadget may be sold in toy stores, but do not be misled -- this is a powerful exploration tool that is ideal for a young scientist's curious mind. It would be handy to use in either home or school settings.
