Make your own tubesock-sized plush toys, with Printies, a $20 kit that includes special fabric that leverages the power of your inkjet printer. This isn't the first printer-based craft kit -- old timers might recall Print-Paks. This kit includes access to an online creativity site (www.myprinties.com) where you can mix and match eyes, noses, patterns and so on. It is also possible to freely draw your design or add text. Because each sheet of fabric is a pre-sewn pocket, you print on the front and the back by running the fabric through your printer twice. Obviously, you'll want to have an adult on hand for this, or, at the very least run a few practice sheets. Other components include plastic feet that double as a stand as well as a clamp to keep the stuffing in. The starter kit includes enough materials for six toys, and the $10 refill kits have enough materials for three more. One innovative feature is there is no software included in the package. Instead, you visit the Flash-based design studio at www.myprinties.com. The kits are due in stores by October and are available in three themes - Pet Design, Ocean Design, and Jungle Design Studio.
