Action AllStars is a browser-based, sports-themed Internet site that mixes sports-related games with the ability to chat with other players. Designed for either boys or girls, the site has a look, feel and pricing structure that is a lot like Club Penguin, only with authorized MLB and NBA content. Signing up and creating an avatar is free; although premium subscriptions are available, with more options. You start by choosing the basic look (eyes, hair, jersey, etc.) of your avatar. There are two chat modes -- Safe Chat (highly filtered typing with reporting) or Safe Chat Plus (constructed chat using menus). Daily and weekly 'special events' are based on real-life sporting events and statistics. Sports content is drawn from basketball, baseball, football, snowboarding. By playing games, children can earn virtual MLB and NBA jerseys. At various points in the game, children are shown sports items that are grayed out, available only to premium subscribers ($6/month).
