See also Spore Hero Arena. The Nintendo DS edition of Spore, called Spore Creatures, is a different type of experience than the online computer-based version of Spore. So if you're expecting a similar game only on the DS, you may be disappointed; but in other ways, you may like it. Spore Creatures is more like Pokémon, with more hunting, collecting and trading. You start by creating a profile (games are automatically saved) and are given a starter creature, to which you can drag and drop body parts. To steer, you touch the screen -- the creature follows the stylus. You learn the game by completing simple challenges, such as finding a mouth, getting the fruit from a tree, or swimming off an island. At times, you meet other creatures, and you can either make friends with them by dancing (touch moving dots to the music) or singing; or you can fight with them in order to keep your health meter high. There's a good deal of reading and problem solving involved with Spore Creatures, making it a good language and logic experience. Creatures and items can be traded with the Nintendo DS wireless network, providing the other player also has a game card. All in all, this is a strong title, although it could frustrate younger players.
