9/7/2010 Update: The service was purchased by Barnes and Noble. Started by two Lexington, MA moms in March 2008, Tikatok is a "new online book community for children" designed to let children create, sell and comment on other children's books. Books cost between $10 and $20 depending on length and format. The site is free of ads and easy to use. After you register, you choose one of several templates to select the main idea, character and so on. Next, you add graphics, either by physically mailing in your child's drawings or photos or by scanning them yourself and uploading them to your library. Images can then be dragged and dropped into place on the page, and combined with different fonts.Through partnerships with external printing companies (who are not named), the service offers the books for sale in either hard or soft cover formats. Each book includes the author's photo and biography. The best part about the site is the community aspect to it-- children or their parents can leave moderated comments on other children's books.
