A Visit to The Apple Orchard
© 2007 Capstone Press
Planning a class field trip to the Apple orchard? This electronic book might be a good pre-or post-trip activity, especially if you have a projector. You use arrow keys to flip through the 23-page narrated book by Patricia J. Murphy that goes behind the scenes at an apple orchard and shows how apples grow, how they are picked, and the people who work at an orchard. The browser-based format lets readers progress through the book at their own pace, but the narration is stilted and dry. Other than the ability to flip the pages, there's nothing interactive about this experience. It was designed for English Language Learners (ELL), emergent readers, and struggling readers of English. The program runs in Flash Player and requires no installation on current Macintosh or Windows computers.
