Horse Isle is a crudely designed, functional MMOG (Massive Multiplayer Online Game) designed by and for horse enthusiasts. The setting is a 2D series of islands connected by ferries or bridges leading to Flash games, plus free chat features. You click on an area of the screen to see your avatar move to that part of the screen. Horse Isle follows the Club Penguin model with a free membership (registration required) plus perks such as outfits and saddles for subscribers. While the free part is nice, children without subscriptions can feel left out after playing awhile. The 2D graphics are hardly fancy, a bit like an early version of Pokémon. The goal is to find a wild horse, train it, and start collecting accessories. Online games include digging for treasures, racing, jumping and dressage. Many of these are designed for two or more players, playing together online. Winning earns money for buying things, including your own ranch. Full power chat is available, with different options that include private chat, postal messages, actions, trading, competitive mini-games, and cooperative mini-games. Group activities include drawing rooms, music rooms, and poetry rooms. Note that the game requires Flash 8 or better. Cost for a one-month membership is $5.00; a one-year membership is $40.00. You can also purchase online horse currency for $1. All transactions are conducted using PayPal. For an additional $8, you can get your own custom breed/color/gender horse.
